Ignitor control system at American Electric Power (AEP) Mitchell Plant - Unit 2 complete.

AEP is investing approximately US$1.2 billion to install new environmental controls and hardware at their Mitchell and Mountaineer plants. As part of the project, they chose to complement their new Low-NOx burner system at the Mitchell plant with a Fossil ignitor control system. The contract awarded to Fossil Power Systems included 25 MBTU/hour oil ignitors, Plasma Arc Ignition (PAI) spark system, valve trains, and an ignitor control system implemented using redundant Allen-Bradley ControlLogix hardware. Unit 2 was successfully commissioned December 16, 2005. Unit 1 is scheduled to come off line in April 2006 and will be retrofitted with an identical system.
